Nepali Congress (NC) MLA Rajendra Bajgain has written a letter to party president and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba demanding the dismissal of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey.
In the letter written on Sunday, Bajgain specifically named Lekhak and Pandey and demanded their removal. He also urged the dismissal of other ministers involved in corruption.
MLA Bajgain wrote in the letter, "The working style of some ministers has seriously damaged the dignity of our party and the trust of the public (although some ministers are actually trying to maintain the party's reputation)." "If the party does not take a bold decision in time, it will lead to even more serious political consequences in the future."
Referring to Home Minister Lekhak, MLA Bajgain informed that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has already started an investigation against the employees working in the minister's secretariat. He acknowledged the humble nature of the minister writer, but said that a part of him still found it hard to believe the allegations.
"This is a serious crisis within one of the most sensitive institutions of the state. The Home Minister must take moral responsibility in such a case. This is not just about the leadership of the Home Ministry, but a legal question related to the structure of the ministry," the letter said.
MLA Bajgain has taken a particularly harsh stance in his criticism of Tourism Minister Badri Pandey. "The ministry under Pandey's leadership has wreaked havoc on the country's tourism sector," he wrote. "Looking at the state of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), it seems that the place has become a hub of smugglers."
"Shop owners, service providers, loaders, cleaning companies and many other outsourced companies inside the airport are involved in smuggling of gold and foreign currency. These individuals have direct access to the apron area and even aircraft," he added.
Bajgain said that every area of TIA - from the baggage belt and departure section to the green channel line, customs and coordination between staff - is in complete disarray. He wrote that Minister Pandey and his ministry are directly responsible for this situation. Bajgain has also accused Minister Pandey of promoting Chinese cultural influence in Nepal. Bajgain wrote in the letter, "By inviting Panchen Lama to Nepal, he has supported activities promoting Chinese cultural colonialism in Nepal's tourism sector, which is a threat to the country's sovereignty." He demanded the immediate dismissal of ministers who have either seriously failed in their duties or are deliberately or greedily involved in damaging the party's image.
