Mexico defeated the United States 2-1 on Monday to win the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Mexico overcame a one-goal deficit to win the biggest soccer tournament in North and Central America and the Caribbean for the 10th time.
The United States took the lead in the fourth minute through a goal by Chris Richards in Houston, Texas. Raul Jimenez equalized for Mexico in the 27th minute of the first half.
In the 77th minute, Edison Alvarez scored the decisive goal with a header, and Mexico successfully defended the title as the defending champions. A total of 16 teams participated in this year's tournament.
Of those, 15 were from North and Central America and the Caribbean. Saudi Arabia was the guest team. Mexico and the United States are jointly hosting next year's World Cup with Canada.
