Rabi Lamichhane to be transferred to prison

RSVP President Rabi Lamichhane, who is in Bhairahawa Prison for trial in the Supreme Cooperative Credit and Savings Cooperative Society of Butwal's embezzlement case, has requested for a prison transfer. Following his request, the prison administration and the court have moved forward the process.

After Lamichhane obtained permission from the District Court, Rupandehi, for the transfer, the prison administration has also obtained the approval of the district administration. According to sources, the prison administration has completed all the procedures and sent it to the Prison Management Department for a decision.

The transfer will only take place after the department's decision, said Prison Chief Suresh Bhandari. 'No decision has been made yet,' he said, 'The process will move forward only after the Prison Department decides on the transfer.' Lamichhane wants to go to Dillibazaar Prison in Kathmandu. Dillibazaar Prison is a favorite place of 'VIP' prisoners.

On Chaitra 22, 2081, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court had ordered Lamichhane to be remanded in custody pending trial on charges of fraud in a cooperative and organized crime. Lamichhane has been in custody since the Rupandehi District Court on Magh 3, 2081, rejected his order to release him on a bail of Rs 10 million.

After the Supreme Court also ordered him to remain in custody, Lamichhane has been seeking a transfer. District administration sources said that Lamichhane may be transferred from Bhairahawa on Wednesday.
