Plane crash in Gujarat

A terrible plane crash occurred in Gujarat, India on Thursday. Air India flight AI-171, flying from Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat to the British capital London, crashed just two minutes after takeoff.

The plane took off from the airport at 1:38 am Indian time and crashed just two minutes after takeoff.

According to public information so far, there were 242 people on board the plane. Of these, 230 were adult passengers, two newborns and 10 flight crew members. The BBC wrote that the main pilot of the plane was Sumit Sabharwal and the co-pilot was Cab Kunder.

According to Indian media, there were 169 Indians, 53 British, 1 Canadian and 7 Portuguese citizens on board the plane. It is being told that thousands of rescue workers, hundreds of fire engines and ambulances have been deployed in the area.

There are reports that all flights and landings at Ahmedabad Airport have been suspended after the plane crash. A spokesperson for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport said the airport has been temporarily closed.

The crashed plane was captained by Sumit Sawarwal. He was flying the plane, Indian media reported. He is said to have 8,200 hours of flying experience.

The crashed plane is of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner model. It is said to have a flight life of 44,000 flight cycles. This means it can operate for 30 to 50 years. Indian media reported that the crashed plane is 11 and a half years old.
