The Non-Resident Nepali Association of Australia (NRA) has strongly condemned the attack and robbery on a Nepali businessman in Brisbane.
On Tuesday evening, Vijay Sunar, owner of Shree Ganesh Jewellery, was attacked by a group of four robbers who came with hammers and looted a large amount of jewellery from him.
7 News quoted Queensland Police as saying that the robbers hit Sunar on the head with a hammer, injuring him, and then ransacked the shop and looted the jewellery. The injured Vijay has been taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment. NRNA Australia has issued a statement condemning the incident.
"This is not an isolated incident, there have been several such incidents in the last month, raising suspicions that Nepali businessmen may have been targeted in a planned attack," the statement said.
NRNA Australia has demanded that the group that attacked the businessman be investigated and prosecuted and that the robbery be fully investigated. Along with this, there has also been a request to take immediate and appropriate steps for the safety of the Nepali community in Australia.
