The number of Nepali nationals who died in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ten months of the current financial year (FY) 2024/25 has reached 261.
According to details released by the Embassy of Nepal in the UAE, 30 Nepali migrant workers died in Shravan (mid-July to mid-August), 32 in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September), 33 in Ashoj (mid-September to mid-October), 35 in Kartik (mid-October to mid-November), 24 in Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December), 13 in Paush (mid-December to mid-January), 25 in Magh (mid-January to mid-February), 17 in Phalgun (mid-February to mid-March), 17 in Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April) and Bhaisakh (mid-April to mid-March).
Over the past 10 months, an average of more than 26 Nepali workers died every month in the UAE. In the last fiscal year 2023/24, a total of 231 Nepalis lost their lives in the UAE - an average of 19 deaths every month.
Causes of death included road accidents, workplace incidents, heart attacks and other cardiovascular diseases.
