Work bans in Europe due to heatwave

With temperatures reaching 42 degrees Celsius in some European countries, some countries including France have closed highways due to fires, wildfires and high temperatures, and some countries have banned work.

84 departments in France have been put on high alert, while firefighters and firefighting ships have been deployed to fight fires in the south and Greece. A highway has been closed in Lod in the south. Residents have been evacuated from some villages in Greece, Portugal and France.

Authorities are urging caution as dry weather, strong winds and a heatwave are expected to further increase the risk of fires.

Fires and arson have also increased in Greece and Portugal as high temperatures rise. Some villages have been evacuated, French TV TF1 reported.

Several Italian, Spanish, Greek and French regions are preparing to impose work bans during the very hot weather as a severe heatwave spreads across the country. It has already been implemented in parts of Spain and Italy.

The regions planning to implement the measures in response to the rising temperatures include Lazio, Tuscany, Calabria, Puglia and Umbria. The Italian health ministry has put 17 of the 27 cities on its highest alert list, including Rome, Milan and Naples.

Spain's national meteorological agency Aimet has warned that June will be the hottest on record. Temperatures in Seville and other southern cities have reached 42 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in some parts of southern France have also reached 42 degrees.

Camping cars have been evacuated and tourists have been urged to move elsewhere. Health authorities have advised vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and young children, to avoid strenuous activity during the heatwave and to take precautions to protect themselves from the high temperatures.
