Talks between government and transport entrepreneurs

Talks are ongoing between the Nepal National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, which has been protesting by halting public transport, and the government. Federation President Bijay Bahadur Swar, who participated in the talks, said that an agreement has not been reached on the main points. He said, "Discussions are ongoing. We have put forward our demands. Although the government side has agreed on six points, there has been no agreement on revoking the regulations issued by the Gandaki Province government." He said that the protest programs will remain as they are until the Gandaki Province withdraws the regulations.

Transport entrepreneurs are protesting with seven demands after the Gandaki Province government introduced the ride-sharing regulations. Public transport has been halted in Gandaki Province for four days, while transport entrepreneurs have been halting transport across the country since Monday. Thousands of passengers have been stranded due to the halt in public transport. The Gandaki Province government is publishing the regulations in the gazette on 16th of Jestha and has brought about the operation of private vehicles (red plates) under Section 2 (h) of the Regulations 2082.

The demand of transport entrepreneurs is that they have been forced to announce a protest program after the public transport sector was displaced due to the laws and regulations made by the provincial government. They say that all seven provincial governments are bringing regulations that are contrary to the Federal Act, Section 8, Part 2 and Section 12, Part 1 of the Vehicle Act 2049.
