ISIS attack kills 34 soldiers in Nigeria

At least 34 soldiers were killed and 14 others wounded in an armed attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) on a military base in southwestern Nigeria near the border with Mali.

The Nigerian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the attack took place in the Bani Bangou area on Thursday and involved eight vehicles and more than 200 motorbikes. The military has launched an air and ground sweep to secure the area.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement. The ministry said it was awaiting further details.

The incident highlights the seriousness of the regional security situation and highlights the need for security forces to be more vigilant.
