Doctors at King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai, India, on Tuesday confirmed that two patients infected with Covid-19 have died. However, they clarified that the deaths were due to chronic diseases and not Covid-19.
The 59-year-old male patient had oral cancer, while the 14-year-old girl was suffering from nephrotic syndrome, a kidney-related disease.
Between January 1 and May 19, India's health ministry reported 257 Covid-19 cases across the country. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reassured the public that the situation was under control and urged people not to panic.
The health ministry advised citizens to wear masks and keep their booster vaccinations updated.
A new wave of Covid-19 has recently emerged across Asia. Rising cases in Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Thailand have raised regional concerns. Health experts have attributed the surge to waning immunity and an increase in large crowds.
